Michael Taylor

Michael is a South African artist who was born in 1979 and grew up in Johannesburg.  He attained his MA in Visual Art in 2006 (Cum Laude) and has been working as a professional artist since then. He also holds a part-time lecturing post at Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography, teaching Illustration and Design Discourse.

Taylor has observed the changing colours and atmospheric conditions of the NSW’s Monaro district and southern coastline for over forty years. Dominated by a range of blues and purples from light to dark, he records his impressions of night, sea, sun, sky and rain. His paintings draw on his infinitely textured experience of nature – its moods and elemental sensations. Their expressive sweep of energy also charts his own movement within the landscape, either on foot or by car. Time, space, water and light are exhilaratingly conflated into vivid, shifting concentrations of paint and colour.
