Takeaway Landscape series is based on the surrounding country in which I live in the Derwent Valley of lutruwita/Tasmania. Surrounded by bush in the foothills of the mountains, nature takes your breath away, the intensity and immensity of it. But frequently I see litter discarded on the side of the roads. Obviously, people driving through these landscapes throw their rubbish out the windows. I have combined these embroidered still life studies with decorative painted backgrounds inspired by Flemish tapestries. The framing device of the cathedral window shape further embellishes something that is rubbish in the wrong place. The series centres around the final expulsion from the garden, banished as we are unable to appreciate the paradise in which we live.
