This series of paintings, drawings, and mixed media works, part of the ongoing series Suburban Stillness, explores the quiet poetry of suburban Australia—its predictable rhythms and muted comforts—through the lens of memory and fleeting significance.
A pink sticky note. A swipe of pink highlighter. Small, fluorescent interruptions in the monotony of tiled roofs and brick facades. These symbols run through the work as markers of remembrance—attempts to hold onto the small but essential moments that slip through the cracks of routine. Within the repetition of cul-de-sac living, where each street echoes the last, these works highlight the quiet gestures of daily life: a pause at the bus stop, a moment of self care in the bath, the creaking of the clothesline in the wind. In these fragments, there is a sense of stillness, peace and intimacy but also a longing—a recognition that the details we try to capture are often the first to fade.

LILI MONTEFIORE | STICKY NOTES OF SUBURBAN STILLNESS
Lili Montefiore
“I grew up in Wangi Wangi, on a peninsula jutting out into Lake Macquarie, NSW. My early life was insular and magical. I was brought up in a large creative family and attended a Steiner School. Creating art has always been a safe space for me.
