In ‘Room Full of Leaves’, Jane Guthleben draws inspiration from Kate Grenville’s novel ‘A Room Made of Leaves’, which reimagines hidden histories and untold perspectives. Guthleben’s paintings of Centennial Park, Fowlers Gap, and a series of intimate still lifes explore the intersections of landscape, memory, and storytelling.
Through delicate studies of foliage, shifting light, and quiet details of nature, the works create an immersive “room” where the overlooked becomes luminous. This exhibition invites reflection on how stories — both personal and cultural — are written through place, and how the natural world continues to shape our sense of history and belonging.

JANE GUTHLEBEN | ROOM FULL OF LEAVES
Jane Guthleben
Through still life paintings of Indigenous flowers, birds, and insects, Guthleben uses the traditions of vanitas and its messages of the transience of life to present a painted vernacular that spans humour, kitsch, historical and environmental themes.
