Rick Carlino continues his decade-long exploration of resin as a medium of conceptual and visual depth. Working in small and large-scale formats, Carlino harnesses the fluidity and unpredictability of epoxy resin – its flow, its viscosity, its capacity for both control and transgression – to create works that pulsate with colour, light and layered energies.
For Carlino, layering becomes a way of encoding experience: translucent sheets of colour hover over more opaque shapes, pigment blooms into unexpected forms, and the glossy surface becomes a mirror for the viewer’s own movement. He invites us to dwell both on what is revealed and what lies just beneath. He challenges the viewer to question the tension between control and letting go – between the geometric precision of his shapes and the organic unpredictability of the resin itself.
