Sophie Penkethman-Young


Sophie is a mixed media visual artist, specialising in video and digital work.  

Since graduating with honours from The University of Sydney College of the Arts in 2014, Sophie’s work has been exhibited at Hong Kong Art Central, throughout Europe and at various galleries around Sydney. Sophie has also been commissioned to create works for the Lee Matthews Fashion Week Show and various music events including the At First Site Festival. She also created the lighting design and projected video work for contemporary dance piece ‘Passing’ with Amrita Hepi & Jahra Wasasala in association with Darebin Arts and Next Wave Festival 2016. 

In 2015 Sophie collaborated with video artist Eliya Cohen to create a work as part of the University of Sydney Reconciliation Week Vivid show.

Sophie is interested in collaborative, cross medium practice. In 2016 she curated and produced ‘Mars Bars and Aphrodite’ exhibition at 107 Projects. This exhibition featured 3 other artists of different disciplines. In 2017 Sophie curated a show at Interlude gallery, exploring digital representation of nature in an urban environment. For this show She created a new work for this show, that includes live stream video and sculpture.
