EXHIBITIONSNovember 10th – November 26th
John Moroney is an interdisciplinary artist, creating work that spans genres and mediums. He received a Fine arts Diploma from Newcastle Art School in 2013, and graduated from the National Art School in 2016 with a degree majoring in sculpture. Utilising sculpture in conjunction with a variety of two dimensional and digital media, he utilises a variety of means to explore the different ways in which we view our world.
His work encompasses a variety of subjects but continues to employ the human figure as a basis for exploration. Working between both the classical and contemporary artistic traditions, he hopes to use whatever means available to express something of the times we live in. Giving hope to the notion that what one might experience as an individual is not isolated, and that there is something we all have in common within the greater human experience.
The body of work in John Moroney’s new exhibition is essentially a series of portraits. What began as a simple arrangement of pictorial elements evolved into a negotiation between visceral and psychological patterns. The static image becomes like a puzzle to assemble or disseminate. Some works focus on creating a cinematic experience, while others become a vehicle for testing, like a form of interrogation.
